Horizontal Oval Tank Volume Calculator
Horizontal Oval Tank Formula
Volume CalculationThe volume of a horizontal oval tank is calculated by determining the area, A, of the end (shaped like a stadium), and then multiplying it by the length, l. The area of the end is given by:
A = πr² + 2ra
Where:
- r = h/2 (radius is half of the height)
- a = w - h (the flat sides of the stadium are the width minus the height)
- w > h (the width must always be greater than the height)
Therefore, the total volume of the tank is:
V(tank) = (πr² + 2ra)l
To calculate the volume of fill in a horizontal oval tank, it is useful to imagine the tank as two halves of a cylinder separated by a rectangular tank. The fill volume can then be calculated by summing the volumes of:
- A horizontal cylinder tank where:
- l = l (length of the tank)
- f = f (fill height)
- diameter d = h (height of the tank)
- A rectangular tank where:
- l = l (length of the tank)
- f = f (fill height)
- width w = a = w - h (width of the rectangular section, which is the same as the flat sides of the stadium end)
Therefore, the fill volume of the tank is:
V(fill) = V(fill-horizontal-cylinder) + V(fill-rectangle)
